Wardrobe by Me Diana Wrap Dress

I love my Wardrobe by Me Diana Wrap Dress (affiliate).  It was in my UFO pile forever, because I didn't have matching fabric to add the belt, but finally finished it when I realized I could take the belt from the hem (I'm only 5'2" and it is drafted for 5'6").

This is ITY from fabric.com.  I was really disappointed by how orange it was when it arrived, but decided it would be a good muslin fabric for my Diana.  I was able to get my dress out of 2 yards of fabric.  I'm glad I tried it and I love it on.  I've had the dress sewn for months, but haven't been blogging/sewing much, so on a whim when I put it on for Mass today and asked my 12 year old to kindly take pictures of me in the 100 degree weather.  We were both very hot after only a few minutes outside, so these are the good ones.

This is a true wrap dress with two styles of removable/optional collars.  It is available in size 0-16 Euro 30-46 and her curvy (affiliate) sizes 14-24 Euro 44-54.  You can make it with banded sleeves, short sleeves, 3/4 sleeves (my choice, but unhemmed), and long sleeves.  I love the length of Christina's sleeves; even though I'm petite sleeves tend to be too short on me, but not with WBM patterns.

The pattern features:

  • 1/4" seam allowances
  • Layers to print the sizes needed
  • No trim pages for both A4 and Letter
  • Body Measurement Table (Imperial and Metric)
  • Garment Measurements (Imperial and Metric)
  • Illustrations and clear instructions for assembly
  • Notches for matching pieces together easily when sewing

Pattern pieces:

  • Front Bodice
  • Back Bodice
  • Front Edgeband
  • Asymmetrical Sleeve
  • Back Skirt
  • Front Skirt
  • Belt Template (use measurements to cut right length)
  • Collar a and b
  • Armscye band

It's been a long time since I cut and traced this, but I think I made an 8 blended to a 10 or 12.  As I have said before I was afraid of Wardrobe by Me's size chart for a really long time.  My hips are 3 sizes larger than my bust, but she drafts things so nicely it is so easy to blend to the larger size and not have any problems.  I'm very happy with the fit, but will remove a tiny bit of length next time from the small of my back (for a swayback adjustment) and at my shoulders to help hold the wrap tight across my chest.  I'm only 5'2", so those are very normal adjustments for me.

If you look close you can see the waistline lower than the belt.  I'll just remove the extra length with my next one.
This dress is an homage to Diane von Furstenberg.  It looks fabulous on everyone and was really easy to sew.

She has a second flared skirt option on the curvy dress and a skirt ruffle, so she added the regular sizes Diana flared skirt to her Facebook group's files.  The group is Wardrobe by Me Pattern Support.

I have another one of her patterns already cut out and ready to sew.  We will be sharing it with another blog tour very soon.  It's super lovely for summer and year round.

Happy Sewing!
