Wardrobe by Me Asta Dress

Perfect fast sew for a special Winter Party or Christmas Mass.  The Asta Dress (affiliate), by Wardrobe by Me (affiliate), with Boatneck is incredibly fast to sew and features a flattering cut, so you can look great during the holiday celebrations. Here is a non-affiliate link to the pattern if you prefer not to use affiliate links, I don't mind either way.  I blog and sew just for fun not really for income.
Wardrobe by Me has a great post with Asta and Wanda as dresses for the holidays.  https://wardrobebyme.com/blogs/news/sewing-for-the-holidays If you read to the bottom of her post you will find a discount code.
I assembled the pattern, cut my fabric and sewed up my dress in an afternoon, so no matter how little time you have, you should be able to sew this up for a special occasion.

My Dress is made with Scuba I bought at Joann's fabric.  I fell in love with it despite having a rule to never wear polyester fabrics.  Just in case you don't already know, I live in San Antonio, TX and it is normally just too hot here for polyester anything.  This dress will work great for our three months of cooler weather.  I was a bit worried about it fitting too tight, since it isn't a single jersey, so I cut my waist a bit wide, but in the end I had to take it in, so I think it worked well with the Scuba as drafted.
The boatneck is simply turned under and hemmed, I used my coverstitch to get a clean finish for the neckline, but a twin needle or decorative stitch would work too.  This step saves so much time, because you aren't adding any pieces to make a neckline.  I really like that there isn't a facing to tack down or understitch to keep the seam from showing.
The sleeves, like all of my other WBM patterns, set in easily and beautifully.  I never stress about if the curves will match up or I'll have to gather any part to fit.  I also love how long they are.  I'm only 5'2" and I guess I must have long arms because I usually find that sleeves are just barely long enough.  These had a couple inches to spare, so if you are used to having to add length I think you will be happy here.
Ideally I should remove about an inch and a half from the bodice of this dress to make the waistline hit at a more figure flattering spot.  I'm petite, so that would be a usual adjustment for my frame.  I was going to do that and take more pictures, but I have misplaced the dress.  I have searched everywhere and finally gave up and decided to blog it with the two slightly okay pictures I took for fit.  Hopefully, after a through cleaning of my sewing room, I'll find my dress and it will be what I get to wear to Christmas Eve Mass.
   Happy Sewing!
